ASIACALLING

Asia Calling Program on 23 July 2016

Asia Calling Program on 23 July 2016At the height of the Cold War and with the third-largest communist party in the world, Indonesia’s rivers ran with the blood of alleged communists in the mid-1960s.

In an intense propaganda exercise, the mass slaughter has long been justified by those in power as a necessary move to quell a failed coup, and to save the Indonesian state.

But these days it’s becoming harder to hide the truth of what really went on.

Well this week on Asia Calling we hear about a landmark ruling this week at the Hague, that has acknowledge the Indonesian government was complicit in the slaughter. Not only that but the governments of the United States and Australia, too.

We’re also going to be hearing about trouble in the disputed region of Kashmir, and a debate raging over how to protect women in Pakistan.

And the fallout after the Hague's ruling on the South China Sea.
